Ann,
I used to get the involuntary stretching thing when I first woke up. It just kind of went away. However, try this. When you feel the stretch comming on, push your heels outward. Do not allow your toes to point out. If you need too reach out and pull your big toes back toward you. I started doing this and have never had leg cramps again.
