INDEED!!!

some would hold that the thoughts and beliefs give rise to judgements and more beliefs, which may not even be true, but in the throes of these we hurtle towards negative emotions.

Bizi, when one says we can "choose to be happy" or "choose how we feel" that suggests that thoughts guide emotions.

of course, there are other perspectives to the emotional world than that of a strict behaviorist...

but brain chemicals and their relative balance is a subtle and very individually varied thing. and these chemicals directly produce heightened emotional states which in turn can favor a change in self-esteem, self-perception, perception of others, thought content, and even significantly alter thought form (psychotic feature).

as MaJo was saying, "normal" people who have a more "typical" chemical arrangement in their head may have, as a result, a much narrower emotional range... easier to live with instead of throttled by, and less likely to affect thought processes.
