My aunt got a waiver years ago, I don't know the process though.
I suppose check your state website for info - or ask your doctor what they know about it.
I'd look into it, if you got the waiver you could still use seat belt if needed, but then wouldn't have to worry about tickets & fines if it is too uncomfortable for you.
