Sometimes it seems that really good people do really terrible things

Keep listening. Sometimes people need to talk and they have no-one to talk with at all. If you can be there to listen then that's a really good thing. It's almost like sometimes people need to talk "at" someone. Just to let it out. What helps is to talk back.
