There should be a on/off button along the front, side or bottom edge.
If nothing else just unplug it from the wall or power bar until the daughter comes back home.
If no one is going to use it til she gets back, might as well turn it all the way off.
I'm not sure if it is a flat screen LCD or the older CRT monitor, but they all usually have an actual on/off button somewhere.
