I have done the "Cold Turkey" withdrawal from
Morphine 2 times in 8 years. It was my own
Choice - I needed to prove to myself Iwas
Strong enough, BY MYSELF, to get off of the
Narcotics I had been on for years.
I was successful, but it was Hell... Unnecessary
Hell! Follow your Doctor's advice. You can
Stand it for the first few days, THEN YOU WILL
NEED HELP!
It isn't pleasant, but this is RSD - WHAT ABOUT
RSD IS PLEASANT????

Anyways, my new pain management doctor wants to take me off my Oxy ER 30mg twice a day & Oxy IR 30mg three times a day. He wants to switch me overnight cold turkey to Opana ER & Opana IR. Ive been taking the Oxy since 2007 & it is just not as effective. Also, I have gastroparesis caused by the RSD & possibly the opiate use. I vomit daily, up to 20 or so times a day for about a year now i guess. Not fun at all. So, the doc thinks trying the Opana to improved pain relief & possibly help my stomach is worth a shot. Waiting for insurance to approve it now. So, if it is, I will make the switch ASAP. Problem is, my doc said I will go through horrible withdrawals & may have to be admitted to either a detox center, hospital, or maybe hospital & have to be completely sedated where I wouldnt wake up for 4 days. I want to try the detox at home & see how it goes. I have Xanax & they are giving me Clonidine to lower my blood pressure & chill my body out some during the withdrawals. So, gotta play that by ear.........my question is.....anyone have any experience using Opana to treat RSD???? If so, how did it compare to other pain meds you have tried??? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!!
