Default ice pick headaches

hi this is my first post on this forum

for the past month i have been getting these sharp stabbing pains mainly in the temple area, on other days the stabbing pain would occur at the top of my head or behind my ear. they would only last between 1-5 seconds and i would get a dull ache in between them. They would occur at random times during the day no matter what im doing, although recently it seems to come on during physical exertion.

I went to the doctors and he put me on 400mg of tegretol which is an anticonvulsant but i found this only takes the edge off of the pain. I am a 28 year old male there is a history of migraine in my family, my relative had it. there is a history of bad sinuses in my family also. I'm just worried it might be something else?
