I have done several MRIs with and without contrast. If it is with contrast it takes longer time. As greenfrog said use earplugs and for sure close your eyes and don't open until it is done.
If possible try to find a open bore MRI (NOT OPEN MRI). Open bore has both sides open. If you find 3T magnet it is even better.
