Default Well, since you asked...

We decided to do a little getaway to celebrate our upcoming 38th wedding anniversary, so... (I'll highlight so you don't have to read the whole thing)

Initially we had planned to spend a couple of days at Bryce Canyon (pretty red rocks and formations), but at the last minute we decided to head to Salt Lake City (just a 2 hour drive).

DH reserved a room at Little America. We got all checked in and put the luggage in our room. And then I noticed the fountains outside the window. They were beautiful (as was the entire grounds); however, the last time I fell asleep listening to running water (camped next to a stream) I dreamed all night long that I had to save my family from the floods!!!

So I called the front desk and asked the girl what time they turned off the fountains. They don't! So we moved down the hall. Such a nice room at a Priceline price!

We caught TRAX (free train) to the Capitol Theater and saw "Mary Poppins" performed on stage. Very enjoyable! Mary was just as bossy and self-assured as ever! They even flew her over the audience! Bert did a nifty trick that took him dancing across the stage, then up one side until he was actually dancing on the ceiling -- upside down! Then he walked down the other side until he was finally back on solid ground!

I didn't fall asleep for hours, but managed to get up and get a dress on so we could attend a live taping of "Music and the Spoken Word"--you know: The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, or as we affectionally call them here in Utah, The MoTabs. We waited and waited at the TRAX station to take us the 5 long blocks, but the train never came. A cop pulled up and said it wouldn't be along for another hour! We ran back and got our car and made it just in time. It was such a neat experience. We were instructed to NOT clap during the taping, but afterwards we gave them a standing O! They are so good! And we didn't have to pay a dime.

Then we hung around for a free tour of the LDS Conference Center. I knew they had trees and a stream up on the roof and I had always wanted to see them! The building, built of granite from the same quarry they used to build the LDS temple, was erected in 2000. It holds 21,000 peeps, but you'd never guess it from looking at the outside. There is actually a tiered waterfall coming from the roof down to the street level.

We hung out on Temple Square for a couple of hours. I think if I had a dollar for every flower, I'd be a millionaire! So beautiful! We got to hear them drop a straight pin in the Tabernacle. If you've seen a pic -- its the dome-shaped building the pioneers built using no nails! The acoustics in there are so good that you can hear the pin drop no matter where you sit (room for about 5,000 peeps). Then she dropped a small nail on the pulpit and it boomed in comparison to the pin! That's the traditional performing venue for the Choir, but during tourist season they use the larger building (Conf. Ctr) across the street.

We visited my Uncle Dee, then my brother and SIL, then arrived home sweet home at 9:00 tonight.

*******Oh, I almost forgot! I saw some fabulous RED SHOES at the Conference Ctr. and told the girl how much I loved them. Then I realized who was wearing those RED SHOES: Elizabeth Smart! She was wearing a fabulous and tasteful red dress and, with her blonde hair, looked like she just stepped out of a salon! I said hello and thanked her for advocating for the missing and abused children. She smiled, then we parted ways. She has been hired by CBS to spotlight missing children cases. What a sweet and classy young woman! So glad that perv Brian David Mitchell is finally in prison for the rest of his miserable life!

Glad to be home, but it was great to get away with DH -- we talked and talked! Even about some subjects that usually make him uncomfortable. We've already decided what we're going to do next Labor Day weekend, but we'll stay an extra night so we can fit it all in!

Thanks for listening!
