Are you describing your jaw line under the ear?

If so, there are salivary glands located there and they can swell up if you get dehydrated, etc. They feel soft and squishy when full. My doctor recommends sucking sour candy twice a day.. like lemon drops or Jolly Ranchers. This stimulates the glands to empty and the swelling will go down. If you don't do this you may over time develop stones in the glands...this requires surgery and can be very painful, and never really resolve like they were in the first place.

There are also lymph nodes in that region, so they may be contributing.
