I've never used a usb wireless , but the card adapters & software -just does it's thing and you either click a Connect button the first time or you might have a button to click and a set up thing called - WPS - (wireless protected set up) comes up so you click the button with your cursor then go to your router and push a small button on the side /edge.
that's how our Dlink wireless works.

Then it automatically starts & connects every-time you start the computer.
