I think stress is a huge trigger for all pain states.

Many of us here have increased pain from stress.

Autohypnosis, meditation, and other non drug interventions that reduce stress all show reductions in pain and discomfort.

I've used autohypnosis for over 30 yrs! (I started it for other reasons, and it just helped me deal with my pain well).

Just learning calming breathing techniques can help IMO.
