I have had and still am going through that scare, as my motor neuropathy will always have that motor neuron disease possiblility tagged on to it even thought docs say unlikely. Docs can never completely rule it out for me, CYA legalese, I am getting used to it.

If you EMG is normal you do not have ALS. Twitiching or fasiculations can be caused by any number of conditions including PN, spinal, endocrine conditions. Exercise, anxiety, electrolyte imbalances can make them worse. ALS is a disease of the motor neurons: weakness and muscle atrophy (there are many other neuropathies that present like this as well, thus my condition). It rarely, if ever presents initially with numbness, burning or sensory nerve involvement. It usually does not present bilaterally at the same time involving the entire limb (foot or hand moving up is usual progression). ALS is diagnosed after all possible other causes have been ruled out, upper and lower motor neuron symptoms are present, and EMG abnormality is in 4 limbs.

I made the mistake of reading too much on the net and scaring myself beyond belief. Now I refuse to read anymore about it. Many, many other conditions can cause your symptoms.
