Hi Mezz,

Go back to the dentist asap. You cannot cure this yourself at home because the socket is dry and needs to be surgically debrided to get the blood flowing again. If you don't get this done, the bone will not heal properly.

I know this is scary, but it will feel so much better once the debridment is done and the socket will be packed again with an impregnanted piece of gauze that smells like clove oil. You may have to go back to the dentist a few more times for him to repack it.

Please don't try to do this on your own, it will not work, get in to see him as soon as you can.

Let us know how you are doing!

The dentist basically took them out, gave me a simple fact sheet and said to take some panadol if needed. 3 days later i was still in so much pain i went back and saw another dentist who said i had dry socket. put some stuff on my gums and sent me on my way. the next day hilst eating this stuff came out of my socket, so i called the dentist again. the receptionist told me the gauze had prob come out and to come back if needed to be re-packed. this freaked me out as i had no idea the dentist even put gauze in there, let alone tell me what to do if it fell out or if i needed to come back. I have been applying clove oil on which has been helping a little. when will the pain go away?
sorry for long winded msg.
