If you are getting PT or anything ask the person about it maybe they can do some therapy for those specific muscles.
Have to be careful with self care in those places , don't want to press or stretch on the wrong thing....a pro is much safer for these areas.

A good PT should know how to do this technique also.
He more or less "hooked" or anchored his thumbs in my scalenes and then worked on the SCM after scalenes.
He applied a firm slow steady downward pressure for about 30-40 seconds, and repeated in next section til the full muscle was worked on.
He also did similar with the heel of his hand right below my collarbones and over upper chest.
Was not enough pressure to hurt at all , mainly stretching/releasing the muscle & fascia I believe.

You're probably right about it possibly due to muscle tightness.
It just reinforces the fact that I have to keep working on my neck stretches religiously each day. No sooner as I lapse with them so the tightness creeps right on in there!
