Got this on my Yahoo alerts for MG. Looks interesting and promising. Anyone else heard anything about it?
"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday approved eculizimab, sold as Soliris, for the treatment of the rare, life-threatening disorder called paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria.
This type of drug also
has the potential to treat a variety of common diseases of the immune system such as asthma, age-related macular degeneration, lupus and arthritis, as well as rare diseases including
myasthenia gravis, anti-phospholipid syndrome and organ transplant rejection, according to the Cheshire company.
Alexion’s stock, which trades on Nasdaq under the symbol "ALXN," closed at $40.15 a share Friday, up $2.78, or 7.44 percent.
The medication will become available in the United States in about two weeks, and in 40 countries by 2010, said Dr. Leonard Bell, chief executive officer of Alexion."
