I know we have some older threads with tips for preparing for surgery & recovery time .. I haven't found the main one I am looking for yet...

most have recommended a recliner as getting up from a regular bed is to taxing early on. Plus the being propped up a bit probably helps with keeping swelling down.
easy meals - some in freezer - sandwich stuff - casseroles in single servings so you aren't lifting a heavy dish.

easy clean up & laundry - when my RSI/TOS flared up my kids started to do their own laundry - for us t shirts , jeans & sweat shirts are the norm so no ironing or bleaching needed..

As far as being alone , if you can do you bathroom things with no problems then you should be OK .

Don't try to make any fast moves - like grabbing for a falling cup or plate...
a few did that and it was not helpful to the recovery.
maybe plastic plates, cups for awhile until coordination and strength is more normal.

Kids can be good helpers, ask for help & praise after a job well done.
