I'm not sure how the crystallization in the heart valves relates, but your mom's parathyroid problem may not be too serious, Pam.
Last year I had a pronounced calcium loss, & sure enough one of my parathyroids (we have four) had gone rogue. They scheduled removing it--after they found it.
Finding it is often the most difficult part of the procedure. Although they begin at roughly the 2, 4, 8, & 10 o'clock positions around the thyroid, as the years & decades pass they roam around, who knows where? So they must find them, then remove them. If they can locate her bad one, the rest ought to go without complication.
I had a great doc. Did my homework. Had my health care surrogates paying attention too. Surgery went well, no complications. Got my calcium back
