tonkunst,
Unfortunately, a biopsy is usually only done as a local procedure, to avoid the risk of anesthisia. however, you can request a light sedation with emla cream prior to IV placement, this will numb your arm and make insertion alot better.

I have upper extremity crps from a head-on car accident 12/07. Huge bruise on right breast inside (seatbelt) and possibly internal bruising on outside of same breast, the place I was hit avoiding getting hit exactly head-on veering to the left, inc. airbags deployed, bladder moved south, pelvis twisted. Neck was whiplashed w/twist on C5-7.

I now have a cyst on the right breast (outside) 6 months ago after I had a routine mammo. It was aspirated but came back. The aspiration stuff looked like dried blood and doc said it does not look malignant. The aspiration procedure HURT me a lot, I screamed. They now want to do a biopsy in the same outpatient office with this "local anesthesia"!!! I don't think I can handle this much pain again and think this is additional trauma. I want conscious sedation. Just a needle in my arm HURT!!! I am discussing this w/my doc. I think a blatant biopsy might trigger more crps in the breast where it is not at this point...although I do have pains there from time to time and mammo and ultrasounds hurt. Anybody have experience in this and can give me an opinion? Thanks! Tonkunst1098
