Certainly empathetic as to what brought you here; peripheral neuropathy is one of the most common conditions "nobody's ever heard of". And far too many of us are left with an idiopathic/cryptogenic designation even after extensive investigation (assuming we get an extensive investigation). But you wouldn't be the first to develop a neuropathic syndrome post infection or post vaccination.

The fact that you've had some improvement on prednisone implies that inflammation is at least one mechanism in your neuropathy.

I could talk about a lot of things here, but it's probably better to come on over to the neuropathy part of the board and read extensively--excellent collection of information, tremendous database (including the Liza Jane spreadsheets, an excellent mechanism for suggesting testing for a wide range of neurologic symptoms and tracking test results over time--www.lizajane.org) and lots of supportive discussion:
