Gene suggests predisposition to suicidal behaviour
From ABC Australia. The world today. Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Quote:
ELEANOR HALL: It's long been theorised that genes play a part in mood disorders.

Now an Australian scientist has identified a gene which may help identify people at risk of suicide.

John Mann, who's the chief neuroscientist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, says a variant of the gene called RGS-2 can be found more often in those who attempt suicide.

The discovery could lead to a gene test to help clinicians determine who is at risk.

Dr Mann spoke about the discovery to Peter Lloyd.

I wonder how this type of research and subsequent information actually will help?
I mean, it doesn't really surprise me.
