Confused Calling all spinal fusion survivors

My husband is in a bad spot and I need your help. He had thorasic fusion T-2 thourgh T-12 in 1991. He did very well after this surgery, he lasted almost 20 years without further issue, 13 years longer than his surgeon predicted. Last year he developed some radicular pain from his hips down to his toes. He was diagnosed with spinal stinosis in the L-4, L-5 area. He underwent Lumbar Laminectomy surgery in March of this year in L-4, L-5 & S-1. The redicular pain was deminished, but was replaced with severe, cronic back and hip pain and debilitating weakness. Experiencing frequent falls that have left him afraid to venture very far from his recliner. His physical therapist thinks he is regressing rather than improving. He has seen several specialists, the latest of whom has recommended a full fusion from the original T-2 through S-1. This Dr. thinks the lamonectomy left him unstable and the instability is causing the pain and weakness. My husband is afraid of loosing what little mobility he has after the fusion. We need to talk with those of you who have had radical spinal fusion surgery and have success stories.
Thankful for any and all advice, Mjrtist
