Hi Kris,

It is normal to have discomfort/sensitivity/achiness at and around the site of the extraction for several weeks. It is also normal for the surgical hole to take several weeks to heal closed.

The sinus issue could a temporary thing caused byinflammation associated with the extraction which again, normal. Since you had the sinus issue before, then you may have a chronic sinus problem/inflammation on that side unrelated to the extraction. Does the pressure in the sinus decrease if you blow your nose or take a decongestant?

When you have a sinus perforation that is problematic, you would generally feel a "communication" between your sinus and your mouth. Meaning, there would be a distinct sensation that air or fluid was moving between your sinus and your mouth. Do you have that sensation?

If I recall correctly, you stated earlier that your wisdom tooth was sideways or crooked and came out very easily. The chance of a sinus perf with a crooked wisdom tooth that was an uncomplicated extraction is very slim because the angle of the roots of wisdom teeth in that position are usually not located near the sinus wall, in fact, this type of tooth is often sitting in more tissue than bone.

I know it seems like you should be completely healed by now but from all that you have stated... your healing sounds very normal to me. It has been my experience that many people who have this type of extraction didn't even realize that the hole was open for several weeks...

Please try not to agonize over this.... continue to do your rinsing and careful cleaning. If you develop a fever, swelling, radiating "pain"... then be concerned and call your dentist. Otherwise, at the end of 3 months of healing, see your dentist for a post op xray to monitor the healing.
