You might ask that on the Spinal Disorders & Back Pain forum. AFAIK, success can vary considerably depending on where the surgery is, which nerves are involved, etc. In some cases, surgery can fix the compression, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will fix the pain. I'd want multiple opinions, and to interview any surgeons carefully on their success and prognosis rates with the exact procedure(s) planned. Surgery never comes with guarantees, can't be undone, and in many cases can exacerbate problems or be the start of a chain of subsequent surgeries.
