I thought I wanted to leave this earth for a time. I am glad I didn't. I do know about depression and illness, that they go hand in hand. I think that a kitty can and will help lift your sorrows. They don't really need much at all, and can be entertaining in a way that will bring a smile, not sorrow to your life. You need that smile, and encouragement to keep going forward. Sometimes by doing something different, and bringing a fur ball home, can be the start of recovery from the dark places we sometimes go. I hope you consider it, and want to keep on keeping on.
