Hi all,
this thread may end up needing to be moved, but I have to tell you what I've found. I have not posted a thread about JUST MY TOES yet but I've mentioned them in other posts. I have felt like something else is going on with my toes. If anyone has these issues with toes - and it's due to just pn, please let me know!
My problem started right after I had my wisdom teeth out. I was on amoxacillan for that, and had a terrible time with healing. I couldn't eat solids for 4 weeks. It is then that I think I lost a few pounds, and I don't need to lose any. I am too thin. The amoxacillan caused a yeast infection, of which I started diflucan. Because of the past few years (recurrent yeast, sorry if TMI for the men) I was supposed to take 10 doses of diflucan every 3 days for 10 doses. IT was after the amox and during the diflucan that my second toe became ingrown. While trying to explain my concerns to the podiatrist, I complained that my OTHER second toe was having pain once in a while. Eventually I was told they were both becoming ingrown. Then my other toenails started hurting, and I developed a nueroma. The podiatrists kept trimming my toesnails down, saying they were ingrown. (I didn't believe it!) All the tips of my toes ended up red around the nails. I went to my rheum and said I thought I had chilblains. She didn't think so, then when I described it more, she agreed and prescribed me norvasc.
The norvasc didn't seem to help. After trying the norvasc, my neuromas, toes, soles, ankles, all started to burn or feel numb and frozen. I was either burning with red toes or pale and feeling frozen. Sometimes my shoulders would feel sunburned.
My rheum decided it wasn't chilblains and that it was neuropathy. She canceled the norvasc and started me on elavil. I mentioned the amox and she said that antibiotic does not normally cause reactions like this. I MAY have an allergy to sulfa drugs though, and this is always mentioned at my doctors.
I had cortizone injected in my foot 3 times for the neuroma, and was seeing my chiro... Went to my accupuncturist, and my new hormone doc all the week before my wedding! I was luckily able to dance at my wedding!
Since then, the toes have gotten better. And when someone here mentioned a possible fungus, I started using the tineacide on all my toesnails. However, last night my feet and legs got cold immediately after taking my socks off. And today, the toes hurt more again around the nails. They are red. So I looked up vasculitis and found a few pictures of chilblain lupus. A pic can be found here:

This is exactly what my toes look like! I have mctd, and am starting to think it's turned into lupus or scleroderma. So I'm right back to thinking I have chilblains. Problem is, the norvasc did not help. But the elavil has helped with the burning/tingling. I don't know if I should see my rheum again or see a vascular doc. Or wait until my neuro appt. And my hormone/nalternative doc is trying to get me on naltrexone and vit B shots.
Does anyone have any advice for me? Please help, especially if the neuropathy can cause my toes to do this. I'm sorry for the long posts, that's how my brain works... I can type as fast as I think too, so that doesn't help.
Thank you!!
