I thought you would find this interesting.......... I remember you discussing this issue 4 or 5 years ago. It is in our book too.

INHALED LEVODOPA COULD PROVIDE LASTING RELIEF TO PATIENTS

Challenges associated with today’s delivery of levodopa are believed to play a major role in the debilitating motor fluctuations, or “on and off periods,” associated with long-term use of levodopa. Many patients struggle to maintain adequate therapeutic levels of the drug. They endure dyskinesias when levodopa levels are at their highest, followed by periods of poor mobility when the medication wears off between doses. The Foundation has made it a priority to drive research that can solve these problems and offer patients better quality of life.

Civitas Therapeutics’ drug candidate has shown promise in pre-clinical models of PD to produce rapid, consistent and durable relief from these “on and off periods.” As the project moves into the clinical phase, the Foundation is optimistic that it could open up new opportunities to improve the standard of care for those living with PD. Enrollment is expected to begin in 2012.

To learn more, read the Civitas press release or the grant abstract.
