I'm sorry this serious thing is happening to you and your father.

In the elderly there can be confusing reactions to various common drugs. Zantac and Pepcid, Tagamet, cause a delerium of sorts in the elderly that some physicians are not aware of.

Also other drugs may do this in combination. So look at all the medications they are giving him.
This is a partial list of common drugs that can cause delirium in the elderly:
Anticholinergics (Benadryl, tricyclic antidepressants)
Narcotics (meperidine)
Sedative hypnotics (benzodiazepines)
Histamine-2 (H2) blockers (cimetidine)
Corticosteroids
Centrally acting antihypertensives (methyldopa, reserpine)
Anti-Parkinson drugs (levodopa)

Because of the ulcer, I suspect he is getting H2 blockers, which is pretty common. But morphine, and other opiates also can cause this, as well.
