I found some statistics in this article that were encouraging for my situation: a study that shows that although Prednisone works more quickly, after three years the improvement of patients on Imuran and patients on Prednisone was comparable. Because of my personal situation and the nature and severity of my symptoms, I have been able to choose to try the slower, non-steroid treatment.
