Default Headaches caused by shunt?

My husband received his first shunt when he was just a few weeks old, and had a new one when he was around 13 years old. He has never had issues with it (for the past 15 years).

About a month ago, his shunt became more sensitive, and he began having headaches. These headaches are not so bad that he cannot work or function, but it sounds like they are almost constant, and very annoying. There is no blurred vision or vomiting associating these headaches.

He is a bit concerned, but not to the point to see a neurologist (since he has not become physically sick). I would like him to have a CT scan, but wanted to learn about it a bit more before I forced the issue. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
