Where does he feel the pop? I bet it is at the back of his head. I get some tingly feeling that I can sort of tie to my upper neck. If the blood flow is restricted, it can cause the sleepy feeling.
Has he had any serious assessment of his neck? Not just an x-ray but a fine slice CT or MRI.
Or, some head and neck traction therapy by a PT?
