Knitting sounds like a great hobby to develop. Maybe you could knit gifts for friends and family.

I know exactly what you mean when you say that it feels far and few between to do these little things for people. Maybe this is where the challenge comes in to try to become content with smaller accomplishments and more modest goals--but I know that this is easier said than done. It may help to remember that seemingly small acts of kindness can really have a profound effect on people, especially over time.
