Default vp shunt revision

my mom (71 years) has secondary comunicans hydrocephalus that cause by hemmoraghe she had on Nov.2011.
She has fix vp shunt implantation on Jan.12.2012.
After the operation, all the symptoms like gait disturbance, mild dementia and urgent need to urinate were disapear. My mom live her normal life again. She do cooking, sewing, going to church as before, etc.
But 1.5 month after that, it seems that the symptoms back.... She has tiredness, drowsiness and sometimes dificult to waking p. So, on Jan.22.2012 we went to hospital.
CT result show that the size of ventrikel is larger than before and docter said it's caused by obstruction in the shunt. My mom stay in hospital about 1 week, that went home.
Yesterday, we go to our NS and he said that my mom has to wait for about 2 weeks to see weather the ventrikel become larger or not. And if it larger, than, my mom will have another shunt placing in the other side of the first shunt
I want to know, what the risk to have another shunt (2nd vp shunt) that placing in the other side of 1st vp shunt.
Is it common to have shunt revision only 2 month after the first surgery?
What kind of shunt should we choose now? Fix vp shunt (as the first one) or programable one?
If there's any body have same experience, pls inform me.. Thanks before.
