Hi Janet and welcome.

3 months is really not that long for recovery from a TBI, especially from a severe accident with other physical trauma besides the TBI. I was in hospital for 2 months (TBI, multiple fractures and other trauma), and it was six months before I was physically and cognatively well enouth to begin driving again and was able to return to work.

Yes, he probably does need psychological therapy, which is not at all uncommon for a TBI victim. One of the scariest periods in my recovery was when my brain recovered enough to know something was wrong (confusion, memory problems, emotional issues like anger), but not well enough to feel normal. Outpatient occupational and cognative therapy would probably be useful. Since brain injury is not visable to those not closest to the victim it is sometimes difficult for other family members to understand what is going on.

He should probably be evaluated by a clinical neuropsychologist, these are psychologists who specialize in the applied science of brain-behavior relationships, and most of them are experienced with TBI and PCS. They could plan specific treatment to address any cognative deficits and emotional challenges he has.

I understand your pain and frustration, but he is still relatively early in the recovery process and will need more time to heal.

Best to both of you in your recovery journey.
