My husband got me in that habit maybe 10 years ago and like you a few months ago I just started turning it off.

In my case my sleep time has been really limited and I didn't want to take a chance on being disturbed when I have so few hours but every once in a while if I don't have to get up early I will put on the sleep timer for 90 minutes which is enough time for me to fall asleep.

I kind of like the white noise of having it on very low and would bet that when my schedule settles down a bit I might go back to having it on all night. Haven't noticed any reduction in my electric bill, fwiw.
