I love asparagus too, but we hardly ever get to have it.
i don't know how to do cabbage other than chop it up and throw it in some water with other vegs. and potatoes but i do love it. here we can also get the curly kind which has a wonderful texture.

i love beans with garlic. i especially like to make bean-salads that way.
black-eyed peas take kindly to rosemary and raw fine-chopped garlic. can always add fine-chopped celery and carrots. some water, some olive oil. salt & pepper to taste.
with garbanzos i like to use garlic and thyme, plus the usual olive oil/water combo, salt & pepper. they taste better left overnight. i don't usually bother with the celery and carrots but they can work.
now with kidney beans, redbeans and broad white beans, i like them mixed and i like celery and onion in there. no garlic or carrots.
black beans... hot or cold, with fresh (raw) chopped onion and lemon and nothing else!
NB: where there is raw garlic, do not store a dish for more than a couple days as it can develop botulinum toxin.
when i make a cooked bean dish, i tend to do spicy ones. often i will use a curry base or similar. that goes really well with rice. often i will make a green veg separately, like spinach, to round out the meal.
