Confused To Bone Graft Right Away or Not to Bone Graft Right Away

My #8 and #10 were root canalled to support a bridge 40 years ago, spanning #9 (which was knocked out and has been gone for those 40 years). They are infected and have been since at least 2005. They need to come out. An oral surgeon who does implants says if I don't have bone graft material put in at the same time as the extraction, the bone won't regrow; that it is impossible to grow the bone back later. The holistic dentist who specializes in root canal extractions only does bridges, and says bone can grow back on its own, and that bone graft material could be put in later, though it is harder she says. I don't want to rule out the possibility of implants later, but at the same time, I am not comfortable having it done right away, because I think the area has been infected for so long, that it needs to rest after the extraction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
