Before my concussion, I had trouble with TMJ/TMD that caused soreness behind my ears. I ended up finding out that I clenched and ground my teeth while sleeping, and this was causing my jaw muscles to be in spasm a lot of the time.

I now have a splint that I sleep with that alleviates that pressure. So, might be worth asking your dentist about as well as your doctor?

I found the most help from a Pankey certified dentist. They use very gentle therapies that don't try to re-shape your whole jaw structure. You can find one at http://www.pankeydentist.org/
