My doctor did mention did mention Botox but only if these nerve blocks and medications(amitriptyline, gabapentin) don't succeed in giving me complete relief. From what I understand the Botox treatment is very expensive(thousands of dollars) and may not be typically covered by health insurance. The treatment supposedly completely deadens the nerves for up to 3 to 4 months, eliminating most types of headaches. The side effects seem pretty minimal. Some swelling and droppy eyelids.
Though this does sound appealing, I don't think I will be letting this particular neurologist stick anymore needles into me since she doesn't seem to know exactly where to stick them. Too much money to spend to risk it being put in the wrong place.
I'm shopping around for a new neurologist(this will be my third) and I'm the process of getting an appointment with a back/spine orthopedic doctor to have my neck looked at to rule out a pinched nerve or other damage to my neck causing all of this. I've seen chiropractors but their neck pop twist procedures have just made my situation worse.
