New molecules targeting c-Abl protein ... I truely believe this is the real neuroprotective hope for PD. You don't even need to do trials on humans to proof this. If you know a certain protein is causing damage to your neurons, then targeting these proteins will slow down the progression. The only reason to conduct a trial is to verify whether this new product has severe side-effects or not.
And I think these meds are not too far away anymore. According to the CEO of Intellect Neurosciences he expects a disease modifying drug for Alzheimer in 2015:

Very interesting and promising, even though I realize that in past people have been very optimistic with their predictions. But now I do have the feeling that scientist are understanding the mechanisms in PD and AD better and therefore designing medication with more prospects.
