Oh, my, no. My wife did have some of those she had custom-made by a podiatrist, but I was actually thinking of the gel-type available at pharmacies. They don't work for everyone, but there's a large variety of types for... well, a variety of prices.

The pain I get is very similar to what you can't describe!
I just figured it was from a combination of things, and since I can't spend a lot of time on my feet anyway, it hasn't been as pressing a problem for me. I can definitely appreciate how it could/would be though...
