I was 64 and I also was quoted $440 for a supplement policy until I turn 65. You are correct about this. I had to have emergency surgery for ruptured gallbladder and had to pay my medicare deductible of $1156 as I couldn't afford a supplement. I don't know how the government thinks we can pay for a supplement when we can't work!
