PaperShoes,

Welcome to NeuroTalk. Sorry to hear of you getting tangled up with your horse's knee. Ouch.

A concussion can take a wide range of time to heal. Most will heal in the first week or so. Some will take up to 6 weeks. Others (15%) can take a year or two.

The number of prior concussions can contribute to the length of recovery.

If you struggle with anxiety and depression, could it be that you have suffered prior concussions or head 'dings'? Concussions can contribute to anxiety and depression struggles.

The recommended procedure for a concussion is simple. Simple quiet rest. Emotional, physical, and mental/cognitive rest is important.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine.

The doctors are rarely much help.

The only time you should get imaging done is if you have intense head aches, unequal pupils, weakness in one side, vision difficulties, unrelenting vomiting, and a few other extreme symptoms. If these symptoms show up, get to the emergency room right away. Don't drive yourself in these conditions.

You may experience an increase in symptoms over the next few weeks. This is common and no concern unless the symptoms are in the above list. It takes an injured brain a while to figure out what is going on and the chemical cascade of toxins can be slow to manifest.

Let us know how you are doing.

There are lots of knowledgeable and experience people here.

btw, If you own horses, are those paper does made out of currency? LOL Horses can be expensive.

My best to you.
