Although this sounds a bit extreme, I can see nothing wrong with the advice given here. The idea was not to force vomiting, but rather to assess and induce a gag reflex. I'm sure the half way down the throat reference was a slight exaggeration, but as an RN with experience in similar medical situations, I can certainly understand the reasoning behind the procedure.
Due to MS, I have a similar problem where my gag reflex is inhibited ... resulting in food, fluids and tablets going down "the wrong way". If my problems intensify, I will soon need treatment to stimulate my gag or risk pneumonia or even choking, from inhaled foreign substances.
