Bears are territorial and stay in "their" area for the most part, so we pretty much know who's here on a regular basis. We have one large older male (Brutus), Brunella and her cub. I haven't named the cub yet because I haven't seen it myself (but a friend saw it with Brunella on our property a couple weeks ago). It may not even be alive anymore since I didn't see it with her the other day (males kill the cubs if they spot them). Although she might have run it up a tree. Her mom (Bertha, and younger brother, Buster) were both killed last fall. There may be others but they are likely not regulars.

It can be concerning when we see them day after day. Sometimes I have to keep the bird feeders in for a few weeks at a time to reduce bear activity. They can get pretty bold and walk up WHILE I'm sitting on the porch (just 20 feet away). I've had the game dept out to our property to assess our activity. They make suggestions to help deter them from coming (but it doesn't usually work)...after all, we are on "their" property as they see it...lol. My biggest concern is my dog and must check the yard EVERY time before taking her outside so there is no confrontation (especially with a cub in the area).

They really are amazing creatures and fun to watch (from the INSIDE of the house).
