I've posted a number of times--
--complete with lists of references, about the growing evidence that pre-diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance can be a cause of neuropathy, particularly painful, small-fiber kinds. (I'm rushing a bit today, but just pull up my posts by name and they're easy to find.)
A lot of doctors still don't believe one can get neuropathy unless one has long-standing diabetes, though.
It's also possible for impaired glucose tolerance to exacerbate already standing neuro problems, as in the "double-crush" hypothesis (something else I've written about and can be searched for here). It's something I know I have to watch closely for with my recent 5.7 hemoglobin A1c reading.
