That's not a bad question to ask; I'd probably ask it myself.
However, I wouldn't hold the doctor to whatever he says. I can envision that, like some procedures (e.g. surgery), the doctor may start with a plan, but have to change/expand it on the fly depending on what he finds, and where, once he starts. Some result in one location may cause him to want to pursue further probing/tries in other directions he hadn't originally anticipated, and as long as he's in there, it doesn't make sense to stop him because he wants to go beyond what he initially said.
