Trophy SCS got me working..modified duty but Working.

The toughest 2 years of my life.

I was diagnosed with a tumor in my thorasic spine in August of 2010. Surgery was performed in early September..My life was changed on that septer day and not for the better. After the surgery healed I returned to work in late November 2010 but was in a constant daily struggle. The pain was horrible. I was prescribed multiple medications that hardly worked. From lyrics to gabbapenton to Oxy to hydrocodine..It was a nightmare. My willwas strong and struggled atnwork until June 2011..I woke up and just collapsed in excrutiating pain..My Neuron Surgeon sent me off to pain management. I went through tons of pain medication. FACET BLOCKER shots. EPIDURELS..RADIO FREQUENCY ABLATION..it was month after month pain..pain..pain..the pain started at the surgical spot shotdown my spine and radiated into my left abdomin..It got worse with activity..so I was handcuffed to my bed...My diagnossis was blunt nerve trauma and scar tissue growth at the surgical spot. I became a canditate for a spinal implant. In April 2012 I was. sheduled for an SCS trial. The surgery was a bust. The doctor could notnpass the SCS leads past the scar tissuenin my spine. I WAS VERY DEPRESSED. I thought my career and family life was OVER. Thanmy doctor referred me to Dr.DoOuro of Beth Isreal Hospital in NYC..My life was about to change. In May 2012 I Was once again on the schedule for the SCS trial. DR. DoOuro could not get the SCS leads through the scar tissue. However she did a work around. She hplaced 2 leads one above and one below the initial surgical spot. After a couple of days of healing...to my surprise I was feeling lime my old self..I was mobile again. I was not feeling hand cuffed to my bed...I had hope. After the success with the trial. The perminant device was implanted on June 1 2012..The stitches were removed on 6-13-2012 ..It hurt for a few days but....I returned to work on 6-18-2012..I still utilize pain medication...I am not cured BUT my quality of life has increased dramatically ..I am currently on modified duty and take half the pain medication I was taking before the SCS..I don't think I will be doing karate or hitting softballs any time soon..but I can be productive at work and enjoynmy family...Thank you DR.DoOuro and thank you medtronics for allowing me to LIVE again...Anthony
