They will usually try gabapentin (or Lyrica) before trying a central analgesic -- that's just protocol.

It's great when someone finds something that helps/works, but since everyone is different, not to mention PNs, each case will be different.

A better approach might be to talk about (describe) your pain and how it affects your day to day life, and leave medication selection to doctors.

Google: talk doctor pain for many articles on how to talk to doctors about pain, dos & don'ts, etc.
