Question shunt catheter pain

I have heard that reducing shunt catheter length is a technique to aid in reducing abdominal area spasms, pain from shunts catheters. I had two shunts which caused this severe pain. An ETV was performed the shunt removed and all pain disappeared but now I may be in need of having another shunt placed and do not want to go through this total intolerance again. Would appreciate hearing from all that have had any success with this shortening of the catheter or anything else in regard to reducing the pain
